SARLACC LARVA OUTSIDE THE SPIDER'S LAIR - 147K
STAR WARS ART
The art on this page is from a ten page story Fortune, Fate, and the Natural History of the Sarlacc, written by Mark Schultz.
The story appears in the comic Star Wars Tales no. 6, published by Dark Horse Comics in December 2000, and reprinted in the Star Wars Tales vol. 2 book.
In a fit of madness I decided to render all the artwork in acrylic, rather than do computer colouring, the normal practice for these comics. Along the way I got to paint Jabba the Hutt, Boba Fett, Stormtroopers, Dewbacks and Jawas.
I also got to design a new character that Mark Schultz had dreamed up, Grubbat Fhilch, as well as a couple of new creatures found on the planet Tatooine, a bony vulture and a giant three-headed spider!
The main subject however, was the life cycle of the Sarlacc as it grew from spore to parasitic larva, then metamorphosed into an adult creature.

STORMTROOPERS RIDING DEWBACKS - 142K
The dewbacks were very enjoyable to do, especially as I found great reference in the creature designs wonderfully drawn by Terryl Whitlatch, shown on the official Star Wars site.
Original art for this story will be available from the Denis Kitchen Art Agency.
OTHER COMICS: AIRFORCE AMAZONS, IN DREAMS, ACID BATH CASE, NEUTRO.
