RECENT READING
Here are a few comics I've read in recent times that I highly recommend:

• Will Elder, The Mad Playboy of Art is a look back at the work of the hardest working man in comics, and a torch carrier for true Marxism.
  
  

• Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood by Marjane Satrapi. Written and rawn in a deceptively simple style, this is a powerful memoir of the Iranian revolution and the subsequent Iran-Iraq war seen through a child's eyes. The book was originally written in French, and you can find the French version along with more books by Marjane Satrapi on Amazon.fr.
  
  
• Safe Area Gorazde by Joe Sacco. A rigorous and humane piece of visual journalism about the Bosnian war.
  
  
• On a much lighter note, Flaming Carrot & Reid Fleming, the World's Toughest Milkman by Bob Burden and David Boswell. High-class surreal comedy!
  
  
• The Grasshopper and the Ant by Harvey Kurtzman. Bugged out beatnik philosophising meets buttoned-down big business in this beautiful new edition published by Denis Kitchen.

CARL BARKS LINKS
In case you didn't know already, Carl Barks, the good duck artist, was the man who created the best Donald Duck comics from the forties on - a colossus amongst cartoonists. There are zillions of Barks sites out there - here are just a few to get you started:
